- 4-H Leaders: 4-H clubs throughout the country are under the direction of adult volunteers and Pocahontas County’s 4-H could always use someone to help run their meetings.
- 4-H Clover Kids Leaders: youth in K-3rd grade have monthly meetings led by adult volunteers. If you have some time to give, they would love to have you there.
- County Fair and other Special Events: adult and teen volunteers assist with a multitude of fair duties as well as helping with several special events put on throughout the year such as the Livestock Jamboree, the 4th grade agriculture and conservation day, and summer day camps. If you love animals and the great outdoors, consider volunteering your time and services to helping out these wonderful kids.

Nursing homes rely on volunteers to interact with their residents. They need volunteers to provide company for residents and assist in hosting events. Wouldn’t it be a gift to offer them your time, companionship, or share your talents with them on a regular basis? Call or email to see if there is a need for volunteers.
County Conservation

- Wiegert Fall Fest: Conservation is always looking for volunteers to help run the gate and several other stations at the Wiegert Prairie Fall Fest. This is a fall celebration that normally happens in late August. It is located at the Wiegert Prairie farmstead east of Palmer.
- Junior Naturalist Day Camp: our Junior Naturalist Day Camp is a three day summer camp for grades K-6th. The days normally run two hours the first two days and the third day is longer and we normally incorporate a field trip. Volunteers would help chaperone the kids and be in charge of different activities.
- Day Camps: throughout the summer we will also host random day camps where we will have groups visit the nature center or one of our parks or wildlife areas. The topics and locations of these vary greatly but we could always use volunteers to either help with crafts or to facilitate groups.
- Halloween Hike: We host a yearly Halloween hike where we will rotate between Whitetail Ridge Trail and a hayride on the Three Rivers Trail. During the Whitetail Ridge years we could use help leading skits and doing presentations. The other years we could use people to make hot cocoa and popcorn.

- Help with special events (i.e. open houses and children’s programs)
- Genealogical research: if you know your way around family trees and historical documents, the people of Pocahontas could use your help. People often come to the museum to find information about certain families, and the museum could use some help with that research.
- Aide with marketing and publicity: if you are a wizard with social media, consider lending your magic to the Historical Museum. They have tons of great artifacts that could use some time in the spotlight. Other people need to know about all the great finds they have available to the public.
- Help with building maintenance: do you have experience with a hammer and wrench? Consider donating your time to the museum! The building is pretty old, having once been a Carnegie Museum, and could use some general repairs.
- Digitize archival information: almost everything can be found on the internet these days. The Pocahontas Museum is ready to go digital with their records, and could use some help from people more experienced with technology. Let them know if you could lend a hand!
